It is a great pleasure for me to present do it at e-flux.
I met Hans Ulrich Obrist several years ago during a talk about interdisciplinary art practices. At the time I had just started e-flux (together with A. Arenas, T. Gower and J. Welber), motivated in part by my experience with a sequence of experimental and largely under-funded exhibitions that I had helped organize or participated in. It became clear that some other space urgently needed to be developed in which the usual socio-economic forces could be made more flexible: a sphere other than that of institutions or publications; bypassing national or corporate structures, while, at the same time, provide a permanent and accessible location to many different audiences. The Internet seemed like a promising destination for such a model.
e-flux is an ephemeral enterprise -- an information service. It exists because of your interest in such information, your participation. do it is a sympathetic project to this nature of e-flux: it is a autonomous show that exists as a growing set of artist's instructions - (in)formation to be actualized by an interested audience, and capable of taking place simultaneously in many locations in a myriad of permutations. This online edition of do it is a very a practical utopian show. Should you decide to partake in it, segments of it can materialize in your home, office or any other place you may find appropriate. It is also an online compendium of artists' writings, a 'webzine' containing fascinating essays on the peculiar subject of artworks in a form of instructions and experimental exhibitions, as well as an informal community for people interested in such subjects.
Throughout its duration at e-flux, the contents of do it will grow exponentially. Starting with this first installment of works by over 60 artists - many new instructions, essays, interviews and your feedback will be added regularly to the site, I hope you enjoy it.
With warm regards,
