Dear Mr. Hoffmann,
First of all I would very much like to thank you for offering me this opportunity.
I feel very honored by your suggestion, but I'm afraid I have to decline. As an artist, I must admit that I hesitate to begin another career as a curator.
Curating an important international exhibition like Documenta requires more than I could possibly offer. I feel far too young and too involved in my own work to tackle such an enormous and expansive responsibilty. The objectivity in selection demanded from a Documenta curator is far beyond my personal sphere, and I am much too immersed in my own personal desires to even think about the massive creative output of others.
I really hope you are not disappointed.
Yours sincerely,
Markus Schinwald
